West Lionshead, formerly Ever Vail is coming back to the Town of Vail with renewed conceptual project planning for modern skier drop-off convenience, additional employee housing, transportation hubs and a reimagined Vail Mountain base access area.

West Lionshead is one of the few remaining places in Vail where a major redevelopment and another on-mountain ski village will allow people to arrive, move, gather, work, and access all of the resort cores.

A Planning Idea Years in the Making

The idea behind West Lionshead began with the concept of Ever Vail. The Town of Vail’s Lionshead Redevelopment Master Plan identifies the western side of Lionshead as an area for mixed-use redevelopment, improved public circulation, employee housing, structured parking, village to village connections, and a potential additional mountain portal.

The earlier Ever Vail concept included more structure and amenities, but also reflected a real planning issue. The new West Lionshead plan may present a more realistic Village concept with mountain access but without overcrowding.

West Lionshead will Enhance Vail Mountain Access

West Lionshead will first service as another gateway to Vail Mountain which will allow for skiers in the winter and visitors in the summer another access point to our National Forest and Vail Mountain. The proposed plan will have more car drop off areas and connected bus access for all visitors.

Second, it solves some existing connectivity problems and helps connect Cascade Village with Lionshead. Cascade Village can sometimes feel isolated and on its own and West Lionshead will increase pedestrian and bicycle access between all of the Villages.

The third component of the West Lionshead is it will be another housing opportunity for local employees. Yes, there will be multi-million dollar free market properties available also but Vail’s long-term strength does depends on people who can live and work in or near the community contributing to meaningful workforce stability.

The Mountain Portal

The new mountain portal deemed West Lionshead Village will include: fifty-six (seven) thousand square feet of dining and retail space; a parking structure of 300 or more public spaces; an adjoining transit hub; around 250 market-rate and deed-restricted housing units; skier services; a wellness facility and concert venue.

This is one of the final Village accesses to Vail Mountain and when completed, it will add another layer of charm to Vail, Colorado and enhance further the quality local and visitor experience which we all embrace.
